INTERESTED IN A HYMNAL?  We plan to order copies of the Lutheran Service Book (LSB), the hymnal we use for our English services.  Would you like one (or more) to have at home for your family?  The cost is $40.00 (Canadian) per copy.  If you want in on this order, contact Cindy in the church office (519-256-2667) or by e-mail to cisrael@firstlutheranchurch.ca.

PASTOR TORGERSON IS ABSENT from parish today, as he is preaching for the installation of one of his former St. Catharines Seminary students, Pastor Jeremy Richert, near Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

WELCOME TO “PRE-LENT”!  You may remember we moved to the “Historic Series” of Sunday Bible readings at the beginning of Advent.  In keeping with that calendar (which you can find in the front of our Lutheran Service Book, pages xx-xxi), we mark three “pre-Lenten” Sundays beginning today.  Today’s Septuagesima Sunday is roughly 70 days before Easter (“sept” from the Latin word for “seven”).  Next week it’s Sexagesima, roughly 60 days before Easter; and in two weeks it’s Quinquagesima, 50 days before Easter.

VOTERS NEXT SUNDAY:  The formal “Annual Meeting” of our congregation takes place February 24 at 7:00 p.m. in the Auditorium.  Reports will be available from pastoral staff, boards and working groups.  The Elders are also recommending adoption of a formal marriage policy as discussed at last year’s meetings.  Please set this time aside; we need members of our church family to be informed on details of the Lord’s work among us.

ALL JUNIOR YOUTH are invited to a Games Night this Friday, February 22nd at First Lutheran Christian Academy (3850 Locke St.), from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.  Bring your favourite game and a small snack to share.  Please confirm your attendance by emailing Sharlene Procknow at flcjunioryouth@hotmail.com.

SUNDAY SCHOOL IS BACK!  Children can join us every Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in the Auditorium while the Adult Bible Class meets with Pastor Bugbee at the same time in the church.  Since our Sunday School was “out of action” for some months, can you help spread the word that we’re back?

ONE MORE ADULT HELPER is needed for the work we’re planning over the next months for junior youth gatherings.  Sharlene Procknow (of our Academy’s teaching faculty) heads this up, but needs an additional adult to assist, especially if an emergency would arise or if a large number of youth are present.  If you are open to this, you can reach her at:  flcjunioryouth@hotmail.com.

“THE TASTE OF GETHSEMANE” IS TOMORROW!  Join our friends at Gethsemane Lutheran Church (1921 Cabana Rd. West), with the doors opening at 4:30 p.m. and the tasting beginning at 4:45 p.m.  Food tickets are $2.00 per taste.  Food choices include cabbage rolls, pulled pork, Sudanese Cuisine, Porcupine Beef Balls, salad, lasagna, spinach balls, chili, hot dogs, penne, baked goods are more.  Come and taste the flavour of friendship and family!

LUTHERAN HOUR:  “Enter His Labour” (John 4:  1-42) – What would you do if your Word was all-powerful?  Jesus started a conversation with an outsider.  Hear this inspirational message by Speaker Rev. Dr. Michael Ziegler on the Lutheran Hour, Sundays at 560AM (WRDT) at noon.  Streaming audio and pod-casts at www.lutheranhour.ca.
