PASTOR CHARLES SCHULZ, who proved such a good friend of our church family during the pastoral vacancy, is with us today to preach in both services.  He’s doing this as a favour to us and our pastor, who just returned last evening from a week of international Lutheran meetings in Antwerp, Belgium.  Welcome him warmly!  He’ll also speak briefly at today’s brunch at 9:45 a.m.

OFFICIAL NOTICE OF CALL MEETING:  This evening at 7:00 p.m., the Church Council advises that our regular Voters’ Assembly will also have the character of a call meeting, since they are prepared to make a recommendation on the matter of potentially calling a part-time assistant to our pastor.  The Voters may choose to adopt their recommendation—or to set it aside—but Voters need to be formally advised in advance that this business item is coming.

WE MARK THANKSGIVING NEXT SUNDAY, and it would be a great day for you to invite loved ones – including members of our church family who have been absent for a while – and bring them along for this festival.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU goes out to our Trustees, who did a great job cleaning around the church this past Wednesday.  Thank you for all your hard work!

PORTALS OF PRAYER, the daily prayer and devotional guide, is yours for the taking at the back of the church and in the hallway leading to the offices.  The latest issue covers the period from October-December.

ALL LADIES are invited to this year’s Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Canada – Windsor Zone “Fall Rally”.  The Rally takes place on Saturday, October 13th at Christ Lutheran Church in Sarnia beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Speakers include Ann Warman who is discussing her VBS trips to Nicaragua, and Carolyn Dietrich and Rose Mutch who will be speaking about the LWMLC National Convention.  The ingathering will be for hand towels, ladies and children’s underwear (new and in packages) and cash to buy supplies.  Please call the church office by October 10th if you would like to attend, as we hope to arrange a car pool.

THE INTERNATIONAL LIFE CHAIN, sponsored by Windsor-Essex Right to Life will take place this afternoon on the sidewalk along Tecumseh Rd. East in front of Windsor Regional Hospital, Met Campus.  The Life Chain will be held between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m., and involves holding signs to show your public witness against abortion.  If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to call their office at 519-969-7555.

LUTHERAN HOUR:  “Cut Off – For Us” (Exodus 16) – Sin is serious because it cuts us off from God.  Guest speaker Dr. Lawrence Rast Jr. says Jesus was cut off from God, in our place.  Listen to today’s Lutheran Hour on Sunday morning at 560AM (WRDT) at noon.  Streaming audio and pod-casts at www.lutheranhour.ca.
