PORTALS OF PRAYER, the daily prayer and devotional guide, is yours for the taking at the back of the church and in the hallway leading to the offices.  The latest issue covers the period from October to December.

WELCOME, PRESIDENT GIMBEL!  We have the honour to have The Rev. Dr. James Gimbel, President of our Concordia Lutheran Seminary (CLS) in Edmonton, preaching at both services and speaking to the Adult Bible Class this morning.  Prior to coming to CLS, Dr. Gimbel served for years at Concordia University in St. Paul, Minnesota.  We’re really glad to have him among us as he makes his way this afternoon to London to represent CLS at the East District convention.

ASLEEP IN CHRIST:  Helmut Schumacher (1931-2018), who died in the Lord on Thanksgiving Monday, was given a Christian burial following funeral home services this past Thursday.  God bring comfort to Elizabeth and her sorrowing loved ones.  St. Paul told his friends, “In Christ shall all be made alive” (1 Cor. 15:22).  The Lord give us all faith to trust that promise!

EAST DISTRICT CONVENTION begins later today and runs through midday Wednesday, October 17, in downtown London.  Pastor Bugbee and James Krestick will attend as voting delegates from our congregation.

IF AN EMERGENCY ARISES during the pastor’s absence (between now and Wednesday afternoon), please call the church office (519-256-2667), who has agreed to cover for Pastor Bugbee during these few days.

PASTOR TORGERSON IS VISITING TODAY after meetings yesterday with our leaders.  Continue to hold him in your prayers as he seeks God’s will for a decision on the call our Voters’ Assembly extended him on September 30 to serve as a part-time assistant here in his retirement years.

WE’RE PART OF A GROWING FAMILY around the world, since our Lutheran Church-Canada belongs to the “International Lutheran Council” (ILC).  Our pastor recently attended the ILC’s World Conference in Antwerp, Belgium, which happens every three years.  In this time of spiritual need, many Lutheran church groups are seeking membership in the ILC because of its strong loyalty to the Holy Scripture and saving Gospel of Christ.  On the internet (www.ilc-online.org) you can view news reports on the Antwerp gathering, in which Pastor Bugbee was active.

LUTHERAN HOUR:  “We Will Not Fear” (Psalm 46) – Dr. Oswald Hoffman says, “Fear is a fact of life … but faith in God harnesses fear and points it in the right direction.”  Listen to today’s Lutheran Hour on Sunday morning at 560AM (WRDT) at noon.  Streaming audio and pod-casts at www.lutheranhour.ca.
