CHURCH OFFICE CLOSURES THIS WEEK:  Our church office will only be open this week, Monday to Wednesday and Friday (July 23, 24, 25 and 27), from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

SAVE THE DATE!  The weekend of July 17-19, 2020, has tentatively been set for the “100th Anniversary Festival,” marking a century since our church was formally organized in the living room of a private home at 776 Windsor Avenue.  Broad outlines of plans for the celebration are emerging, and there’s a lot of “filling in” to be done … but, for now, please set the date aside and don’t make plans to be anywhere but here with us!

LEADING OUR WORSHIP at both services is The Rev. Fritz Schmitt of Sterling Heights, Michigan.  He is a friend of our pastor since the days they attended seminary together in Oberursel, Germany, long ago.  We’re grateful for his willingness to serve Christ and our people today!

ASLEEP IN CHRIST:  Edmund Erber, died in the Lord on Wednesday, July 18 at the age of 89 years.  We commend our sister Leokadia, and all who mourn her beloved husband’s passing, to God’s comfort.  Visitation will take place at Families First Funeral Home on Dougall on Sunday from 3:00-5:00pm, and from 7:00-9:00pm.  The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Monday, July 22 beginning at 11:30am.

PASTOR BUGBEE RETURNS to the church office this coming Tuesday, July 24.  In the meantime, in case of emergency, please call Pastor Glen Stresman at the church office (519-256-2667).

IN YOUR PERSONAL PRAYERS THIS SUMMER please keep naming these concerns—and others—before the Lord:

–              That He would bless the travels and leisure time of members of our church family away on personal holidays;

–              That aside from travel, God would put it into our hearts to be here in His House and at Christ’s Table on Sundays as often as possible;

–              That the Lord would bless our First Lutheran Christian Academy with a growing number of new students for the new school year, starting in September;

–              That God would deepen a growing number of our members through the daily spiritual discipline of reading Scripture and a prayer life at home.

PORTALS OF PRAYER, the daily devotional guide, is yours for the taking at the back of the church and also in the hallway outside the church proper.  The new issue runs from July to September.  These booklets provide a daily Bible reading with brief reflections, as well as guidance for your private prayers at home.  Try it out, especially if you’ve never done so before!

CANADIAN BLOOD SERVICES has advised us that the need for blood donors is acute during the summer season.  Their donor clinic is open Monday-Saturday at 3909 Grand Marais Road East, Windsor.  A flyer detailing hours of operation is on the bulletin board in the hallway outside the pastor’s office door.  This is a valuable service you can provide for our community if you feel moved to do it; the supply is such that most donations are used within just a few days’ time.

LUTHERAN HOUR:  “You Feed Them” (Mark 6:  37) – The church is not some cruise ship sailing aimlessly about in this life and merely entertaining those on board; but, rather, it is the ark, the only boat whereby, as we traverse this stormy sea of life, we are being brought safely to the other side, to eternity.  Listen to today’s Guest Speaker Rev. Timothy Teuscher (Lutheran Church-Canada President) on Sunday mornings at 1130AM at 6:30 a.m., 1600AM at 9:00 a.m., or 560AM at noon.  Streaming audio and pod-casts at www.lutheranhour.ca.
