PORTALS OF PRAYER, the daily devotional guide, is still available at the back of the church and out in the hallway.  The new issue runs from now until the end of September.  Help yourself!

THANK YOU! Rev. Matthew Fenn and Laurin would like to sincerely thank all the saints at First Lutheran for their kindness and hospitality in hosting Pastor Fenn’s ordination. They were deeply moved by the amount of time and effort that went into making this service and the banquet which followed successful. They are grateful for the gifts and well wishes, and send their Christian love and greetings to all the members of First Lutheran Church.

ASLEEP IN CHRIST:  Maria Trittler (1934-2019) passed away at home this past Wednesday morning, July 17.  God give His comfort to all the loved ones and friends touched by this loss.  A funeral was held yesterday at Victoria Greenlawn Funeral Home.  Jesus said, As I live, you shall live also.

EAST WINDSOR BIBLE CLASS meets again this Wednesday, July 24, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the meeting room at the “Hofburg,” 5064 Wyandotte Street East.  Everybody’s welcome at these sessions, which are reviewing Mark’s Gospel with Pastor Torgerson.  Classes continue then every other Wednesday throughout the summer.

YOUNG ADULT FELLOWSHIP meets again Thursday, August 8, at 6:30 p.m. at the church.  Bring a little cash along to “chip in” for dinner, which we will order in.  We’ve already had three really encouraging sessions; if you or someone you know fits into the roughly 18-to-30 age bracket and would like to join us, get in touch!  For starters, you could contact Pastor Bugbee (pastor@firstlutheranchurch.ca) to get onto the group’s contact list.

PASTORAL HOLIDAYS:  Pastor Bugbee and Gail are on summer holidays this week, but Pastor Torgerson remains available if emergencies arise or you have need of pastoral care.

CHURCH OFFICE SUMMER HOURS:  Remember that during these weeks of July and August our church office is open Tuesday-Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

WE SHARE THE AIR:  Scented products have chemicals that may trigger serious health reactions in people with asthma, migraines, allergies or chemical sensitivities.  To minimize the impact to our members, friends and visitors, we respectfully ask that all of us either avoid or reduce the use of scented products when attending or visiting our church.  We thank you for your understanding and help.

DID YOU MISS SIGNING UP FOR PICTURES?  We’re overjoyed at the strong response, and the original August appointments for pictures going into the 100th Anniversary Pictorial Directory are all filled.  However … not to worry!  In late summer we will be able to offer additional time-slots for pictures in October.  Just stay tuned, and we’ll keep you posted in a few weeks.

LUTHERAN HOUR:  “Let’s Get Close” – Communing with God – The Lord’s Supper.  Hear this inspirational message by Rev. Dr. Michael Zeigler on the Lutheran Hour, Sundays at 560AM (WRDT) at noon.  Streaming audio and pod-casts at www.lutheranhour.ca.
