(Acolytes Today) – Abigail McLeod, Mirek Mulukajo

(Acolytes for next Sunday) – Sofia Floyd, Grace Johnson

ON THIS MOTHERS’ DAY we thank God for everything He has given us through them, both those still with us and those departed.  May the Lord give wisdom to the current generation of mothers to guide their children to Christ and to keep them with Him!

OUR ACADEMY’S ANNUAL SPRING CONCERT is set for Thursday, May 16, at 1:00 p.m. in the school gymnasium at 3850 Locke Street (near Cabana and Holburn).  It’s a real encouragement to our students and their musical leaders when members of our church family come to hear them.  Join us there if you’re able!

SENIOR BIBLE STUDY IN EAST WINDSOR:  An organizational meeting is set for Wednesday, May 22, at 3:00 p.m. at the “Hofburg” apartment building, 5064 Wyandotte Street East, in the dining room.  We have many members living in that building and its vicinity.  Pastor Torgerson plans to host a study time every two weeks in the meeting room there starting on June 12.  Talk this up!  And join us for the organizing session this month!

SEMINARIAN MATTHEW FENN, a “son” of our congregation, is scheduled to receive his first call into the Holy Ministry in a special Seminary service on Saturday, May 25, at 4:00 p.m. in Christ Lutheran Church, 140 Russell Avenue, St. Catharines.  Pastor Bugbee has been asked to preach for the occasion.  Though it is out of town, all our members are most welcome to attend this public event!

TANZANIA MEDICAL MISSION SHIPMENT:  With the help of our members, Cuthbert and Sophia Owenya, we’re appealing to anyone in our church family open to contribute to a transport need.  A used ambulance and vital medical equipment are being stored in Detroit and is prepared for shipment.  However, the shipping bill requires about $2000 (Canadian) beyond what has been collected by the LWML and elsewhere.  Can you help with this need for Lutherans in Tanzania?  There are special envelopes available at the back of the church.  Cash gifts may be inserted; if you prefer to use cheques, make them out to “Cuthbert Owenya.”  Because of the nature of this project, these gifts cannot be tax-receipted.  But we hope people may help the Owenyas support believers in their homeland, as many members have done in the past.  This is time-sensitive, so if the Lord moves you to respond, do so by Sunday, May 19.

CELEBRATE ASCENSION … BRING GOODIES!  We’re hosting a joint Ascension Day Holy Communion Service here on Thursday, May 30, at 7:00 p.m.  Members of Peace and Gethsemane – and their pastors – are joining us, as it was last year.  Could you plan on coming … and bring goodies along for the fellowship time afterward?  The English Choir will sing.  It should be a festive close to this year’s Easter 40 days!

A YOUNG ADULTS’ GROUP is being launched after a recent strategy session to work with those in the 18-30 age bracket.  They meet again Friday, June 7, at 6:30 p.m. here at church and will start with a potluck-type supper.  If you’ve got family members in this age range who might benefit from this, phone at our office (519-256-2667) and let us know!

SIGN UP FOR PICTURES!  If you want to claim a good date and time to have your family’s picture taken for our upcoming 100th Anniversary Pictorial Directory, there are sign-up sheets on the bulletin board outside Pastor Bugbee’s office.  These initial appointments are coming August 19-22.

WORSHIP ATTENDANCE IS UP at our church for the first 4 months of 2019, as reported last week to the Church Council.  Our overall Sunday morning average now stands at 121, compared to 111 for the same period in 2018.  We’re grateful for this blessing, and hope you will commit yourself ever more firmly to be faithful to Christ, Who week-by-week is always so faithful to you!

COPIES OF THE CANADIAN LUTHERAN (our Lutheran Church-Canada’s national magazine) are still available at the back of the church!  Please help yourself.

HAVE FRIENDS WITH SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN?  Ask them to consider enrolling at our First Lutheran Christian Academy this September.  We’re grateful for the inquiries already received, and are eager to add to the “school family”!  Full information is available on our Academy’s website (www.flca.ca) or by calling the school office (519-250-7888).

WE’VE LOST TRACK OF CERTAIN MEMBERS of our church family who have moved or left the area over the years without notifying us of address changes, updated contact information, and the like.  Names of those with “whereabouts unknown” are posted on the bulletin board near the church office.  If you have information on any of them, please call our church office (519-256-2667).  We’re trying hard to have a fully up-to-date roster as we get close to publishing our 100th Anniversary church directory in early 2020.

BACK ISSUES OF BIBLE CLASS NOTES are available on a table in the Lounge.  We recently concluded our months-long study of the Ten Commandments from Luther’s Small Catechism and have extra copies of any pages you may have missed along the way.  They are all 3-hole punched, encouraging you to keep a Bible Class notebook at home for future reference.

LUTHERAN HOUR:  “Home” (John 14:  1-7) – With Jesus, we have a home.  That’s the good news for today.  Hear this inspirational message by Guest Speaker Rev. Dean Nadasdy on the Lutheran Hour, Sundays at 560AM (WRDT) at noon.  Streaming audio and pod-casts at www.lutheranhour.ca.
