WELCOME, PASTOR MOHR! The Rev. Ron Mohr, longtime mission executive with the East District and new Director of Lutheran Bible Translators of Canada (LBTC), is preaching today in both services and speaking in our Adult Bible Class. ASLEEP IN CHRIST: Mary Mariotti (1927-2018), who died in the Lord this past Wednesday, November 14, received Christian burial after services in our church yesterday morning. God bring comfort to her sorrowing loved ones through the words and promises of Jesus shared with them during these days.
HELP CLEAN OUR CHURCH FOR CHRISTMAS! We’re seeking volunteers to help us this coming Saturday, November 24, at 9:30 a.m. (this is the new cleaning day due to the sudden cancellation last weekend), so we can get God’s House to look its “spiffy best” for Advent, Pastor Torgerson’s installation, and Christmas. Can you lend a hand? Gloves are provided, but bring a bucket with you from home! A good number of workers will lighten the workload for all of us!
VOTERS’ ASSEMBLY MEETS two weeks from today on Sunday, December 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the Auditorium. It’s an important meeting, involving also budget plans (for our church and academy), election of officers, and reports on our building and insurance claims. Set the time aside … and join us!
OUR LIST OF SUNDAY BIBLE READINGS will shift to the so-called “One-Year Lectionary” two weeks from today when the new church year begins the First Sunday in Advent, December 2. You’ll find them listed out in the front of the Lutheran Service Book, pages xx-xxi. This will make worship planning, hymn selection, etc., easier between our German and English services.
MARK DECEMBER 16 ON YOUR CALENDAR NOW: It promises to be a big day! On that Third Sunday in Advent at 4:00 p.m., we will install Dr. Wilhelm Torgerson as a part-time Assistant Pastor in retirement here. Afterward we’re planning a big potluck dinner and congregational Advent celebration. We’re eager to have everybody there … set the time aside now, December 16 at 4 p.m.!
ATTENTION ALL LADIES: Mark your calendars! The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League-Canada Christmas gathering will take place on Monday, December 3 at 7:00 p.m. Please join us as we discover who our Prayer Partners were for this past year, and we will choose new Prayer Partners for the upcoming year. Please also bring a small dessert to be shared with the others during fellowship. We hope to see you there!
THE CANADIAN LUTHERAN is the national magazine of Lutheran Church-Canada, and the most recent issue is still available at the back of the church today. Take time to read it!
