LUTHERAN HOUR: “My Delight is in Her” (Isaiah 62: 1-5) – As a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, God rejoices over you. This week we explore our new name and identity as the bride of Christ. Hear this inspirational message by today’s Guest Speaker Rev. Dr. Tony Cook on the Lutheran Hour, Sundays at 560AM (WRDT) at noon. Streaming audio and pod-casts at www.lutheranhour.ca.
SUNDAY SCHOOL IS BACK! Classes for children are now being offered every Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in the Auditorium. Now Christian education can be for the whole family, as parents join Pastor Bugbee in the church for his Adult Bible Class during the same hour children are meeting. If you know of other children in your family or circle of friends who would benefit from our Sunday School, please help us spread the word!
NEXT WEEK IN THE ENGLISH SERVICE we’re going to dust off the “Service of Prayer and Preaching,” found in Lutheran Service Book 260-267. This order of service for non-communion days was used here some years ago, and now we’ll revive it. The choir is ready to help. Look it up in your hymnal to see if you can remember it!
ONE MORE ADULT HELPER is needed for the work we’re planning over the next months for junior youth gatherings. Sharlene Procknow (of our Academy’s teaching faculty) heads this up, but needs an additional adult to assist, especially if an emergency would arise or if a large number of youth are present. If you are open to this, you can reach her at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
ANNIVERSARY COMMITTEE NOTES: In preparation for the 100th Anniversary of our church and the 25th Anniversary of our academy, a committee has met several times since last summer. Broad strokes are starting to emerge for our big celebration the weekend of July 17-19, 2020. Since that is 18 months away, please do set the dates aside and plan on being with us! We’re also planning to publish a badly needed new congregational picture directory, and the first round of family photos will likely be taken in August, 2019. Just be aware of these things so that it doesn’t hit you “cold” when details come out!
EAST DISTRICT LUTHERAN YOUNG ADULTS—also known as “EDLYA”—is hosting a study retreat January 25-27 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Amherstburg. You can find more information (including how to register) at their website, www.edlya.ca. If you’ve got questions or need transportation, contact Nathan Krey. Bring a friend, and come join us!
NEW PORTALS OF PRAYER are still available at the back of the church and in the church hallway. The new issue covers the period January – March 2019. Help yourself to this helpful daily prayer guide!
THE CANADIAN LUTHERAN, Lutheran Church-Canada’s national magazine is still available for you today at the back of the church. Please help yourself to a copy, and bring one home for a friend too!
