VICAR MATTHEW AND LAURIN FENN have written us from Our Saviour Church, Dryden, ON, where he will complete his vicarage term late in the summer. The vicar’s letter – on the bulletin board in the office hallway – gives a good overview of his activities there in northwestern Ontario. For the fall he returns to our Concordia Seminary, St. Catharines, for his final academic year. As a member of our church, Matthew is another in a line of First Lutheran “sons” preparing for the Holy Ministry. Name him, his family and his continuing studies in your prayers as God brings them to mind!
ASLEEP IN CHRIST: Helene Ofner, who died in the Lord on Friday, May 25, and whose body received a Christian burial yesterday at Windsor Memorial Gardens. The Bible says, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” (Psalm 73: 26). God give comfort to Helene’s sorrowing loved ones.
QUARTERLY VOTERS’ MEETING is set for three weeks from today, Sunday, June 24, at 7:00 p.m.
SUNDAY SCHOOL SUMMER BREAK has begun; the classes for children will resume on the Sunday after Labour Day.
ADULT BIBLE CLASS CONTINUES IN JUNE, every Sunday at 9:45 a.m. here in the church. We have three more sessions after today until the adult class begins its summer break on Canada Day.
SUMMER WORSHIP SCHEDULE begins on Canada Day, Sunday, July 1, with German service beginning at 8:45 a.m., and English service starting at 10:00 a.m. This will continue for ten weeks through to Labour Day weekend. Note also that the German services will also be held in August; we won’t be dropping them for that month as in years gone by.
INTERESTED IN A MEMBERSHIP CLASS? We’ve heard from some folks lately interested in membership in our church, and we’d like to know if you … or someone you know … are open to that also. Pastor Bugbee is hoping to put together a class to provide basis “catechesis” (Christian teaching) to prepare adults for membership in our congregation. Be in touch sooner rather than later, so we can do our research and figure out what days and times would work best. Call the church office about it (519-256-2667).
A GROWING NUMBER OF MEMBERS are tuning in to Issues, Etc., a daily show including faithful Lutheran Biblical teaching, reviews of movies, discussion of things happening in current culture, and more. The weekly episode “Preparing for Sunday Morning” can get you ready for Bible readings and themes prior to coming to church. When you are online, stop in and “see” them at www.issuesetc.org.
LUTHERAN HOUR: “The Battleground of Time” (Deuteronomy 5: 12-15; Mark 2: 23–3: 6) – Military personnel know what it means to be on the front line in combat. This message is about a battleground where we’re between opposing forces and could easily lose our life, the Battleground of Time. Listen to today’s Lutheran Hour Speaker Rev. Dr. Dale A. Meyer on Sunday mornings at 1130AM at 6:30 a.m., 1600AM at 9:00 a.m., or 560AM at noon. Streaming audio and pod-casts at www.lutheranhour.ca.
THE TEUTONIA CHORUS will hold a concert (“Spring Into Summer With Song”) next Sunday, June 10th beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the Fogolar Furlan. Tickets are $15 per person and may be purchased at the door (children 12 and under are free). Pastries, coffee and fellowship will follow the concert.
