WORTHWHILE INTERNET RESOURCE: Visit Issues, Etc. (http://issuesetc.org), a 2-hour daily show presenting all sorts of features: Movie reviews from a Christian viewpoint, teaching on Biblical and Lutheran Reformation topics, and so on. Prior podcasts can be accessed under the “Listen on Demand” section of the website. A number of our members already visit this site regularly. You may find the weekly episode, “Preparing for Sunday Morning” especially helpful, since it provides an overview of the appointed readings coming up for the coming Lord’s Day. When you’re online, stop in and “see” them!
ASLEEP IN CHRIST: Brigitte Wolf, who died in the Lord on April 30, for whom a funeral service was conducted this past Friday in our church. We commend our brother, Günther, and all who mourn his beloved wife’s passing, to God’s comfort.
CELEBRATE ASCENSION THIS WEEK as we gather at church on Thursday, May 10, for our service at 7:00 p.m. The 40 days of Easter drew to a close as Jesus was lifted in triumph back to heaven, which then started the time of the church’s waiting and hoping for His Second Coming. Members of Peace and Gethsemane have been invited to join us for this festival. We do hope you will be there!
OUR CHURCH OFFICE MUST CLOSE on Wednesday and Thursday of this week (May 9-10), because the renovation/repair work going on in the lounge means the hydro must be switched off. Our phones will be re-directed to a cell phone in the meantime. Thanks in advance for your understanding about all this! If there is an emergency, you may also contact Pastor Bugbee at email@example.com or Cindy at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note this hydro shut-off will not impact our Ascension Service on Thursday evening.
LET’S BRING A CHILDREN’S CHOIR BACK TO LIFE! We’ve got a willing coordinator in the person of Hannah Garton, who is eager to see us resume choral work with any children, ages 3-10. Practices could either be Thursday evenings or Sunday mornings after the Sunday School hour. Would your kids like to join us? Or do you know of someone you can encourage in this direction? Contact the church office by phone (519-256-2667) or via e-mail (email@example.com). What a glad thing this could be!
GERMAN SERVICES WILL CONTINUE year-round, as resolved recently by our Board of Elders. When the summer schedule begins, we will move the English service to 10:00 a.m. while Sunday School and Bible classes are on break. However, the 8:45 a.m. Service will continue throughout July and August. We mention this already now to give you a “heads up”!
LATEST EDITION OF THE CANADIAN LUTHERAN, the national magazine of Lutheran Church-Canada, is still yours for the taking at the back of the church. Among other things, they’ve got a piece on Pastor Bugbee’s farewell in Winnipeg (Page 26) and his installation here in Windsor (Page 30). There’s also a story on the new LCC Board of Directors, including Suzanne Eberhard (Page 17). Suzanne is the first rostered deacon in Synod’s history to serve in this capacity.
LUTHERAN HOUR: “Love One Another as I Have Loved You” (John 15: 9-17) – Jesus calls His followers to be different as they deal with difficult people. Listen to today’s Lutheran Hour Speaker Rev. Dr. Dale A. Meyer on Sunday mornings at 1130AM at 6:30 a.m., 1600AM at 9:00 a.m., or 560AM at noon. Streaming audio and pod-casts at www.lutheranhour.ca.
