GLAD NEWS FROM OUR ACADEMY:  The Board of our First Lutheran Christian Academy (FLCA) learned last week that the 2018 Advent Appeal resulted in $45,612 in gifts to the school, a strong increase over 2017 and more than double the gifts from five years earlier ($19,216 in 2013).  We praise God for putting it into people’s hearts to support the Christian training of children this way, and thank especially members of our church family who took part!

SUNDAY SCHOOL IS BACK … LET PEOPLE KNOW!  We have now resumed classes for children every Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in the Auditorium.  Since some families were looking forward to this, please spread the word that children are welcome to join us!  Just show up … no advance preparation necessary!

TODAY IN THE ENGLISH SERVICE we dust off the “Service of Prayer and Preaching,” found in Lutheran Service Book 260-267.  This order of service for non-communion days was used here some years ago, and now we’ll revive it.  The choir is ready to help!  Have a look in your hymnal before worship to see if you remember it.

BEING RECEIVED INTO MEMBERSHIP today at the 11:00 Service:  Itamar and Nilce Roos Schlender, by transfer from Christ Lutheran Church, Porto Velho, Brazil; and Elizabeth Ritchie, by reaffirmation of faith.  We’re glad to have them with us, and hope our church family can be as much an encouragement to them as they are to us!

FLCA ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE is set for two weeks from Tuesday on February 12, 9:00-11:00 a.m. and 5:30-7:00 p.m.  More details are coming in next Sunday’s bulletin but, for now, please set this date aside and plan on stopping by!

ONE MORE ADULT HELPER is needed for the work we’re planning over the next months for junior youth gatherings.  Sharlene Procknow (of our Academy’s teaching faculty) heads this up, but needs an additional adult to assist, especially if an emergency would arise or if a large number of youth are present.  If you are open to this, you can reach her at:  flcjunioryouth@hotmail.com.

LUTHERAN HOUR:  “Surrender to Start New” (John 2:  1-15) – Starting a new life involves surrender – a break with the past.  In that surrender, the past can be restored.  Come and see.  Hear this inspirational message by Speaker Rev. Dr. Michael Ziegler on the Lutheran Hour, Sundays at 560AM (WRDT) at noon.  Streaming audio and pod-casts at www.lutheranhour.ca.
